Bio

Ana Elisa Portes holds a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of São Paulo, where she studied with Prof. Francisco Campos and Dr. Ricardo Ballestero. She moved to the U.S. to pursue her Master's degree at the University of New Mexico with Dr. Olga Perez Flora and Dr. Kristin Ditlow. Ms. Portes furthered her education by obtaining her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas under the tutelage of Dr. Kimberly Gratland James.


Her operatic roles include Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Dorabella in Così fan Tutte, Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare, the Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas, Rosine in Signor Deluso, Don Ettore in La Canterina, and Isolier in Le comte Ory. Dr. Portes has performed as a soloist in concerts including Mozart's Requiem and Coronation Mass, Vivaldi's Gloria, Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, and Fauré's Requiem, as well as solo recitals in Brazil and the U.S.. While at UNLV, she received 1st place in the NATS, Las Vegas Chapter, and won the UNLV Concerto Competition (2023) performing Shéhérazade by Maurice Ravel with the UNLV Symphony Orchestra.

In Brazil, she had the opportunity to work as a full-time music teacher at St. Paul's School, and as a graduate student, she worked as a teaching assistant during her master's and doctoral studies. These experiences provided her with a deeper knowledge of music education and vocal pedagogy at many levels, as well as an in-depth exploration of the repertoire of Brazilian vocal music.
